Gulf Coast Shutters
A Durable, Eco-Friendly Finish Built to Last

Powder Coating

Powder coating is a high-performance dry finishing process used to apply a protective and decorative layer to metal surfaces—like our hurricane-rated aluminum shutters. Unlike traditional wet paint, powder coating is applied as a dry powder and cured under heat, forming a tough, long-lasting finish that resists chipping, fading, and corrosion.

At Gulf Coast Shutters, we use powder coating to ensure every shutter not only looks great but stands up to South Louisiana’s extreme weather. Available in a wide range of colors and textures, powder coating delivers a thicker, more even finish than paint—without runs, drips, or harmful fumes.

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is a dry finishing process that has become quite popular for its high-quality, durable finish, maximum protection with a wide array of colors and finishes. Powder coating is used mostly on metals and cures under heat to form a hard coating which is more durable than traditional paint. Another benefit of powder coating is that it forms a thicker coating (in comparison to liquid paint) which can provide more specialty effects that may not have been possible before.

Once the shutters have been cleaned of dirt or grease, the powder coating is applied electrostatically with an electrostatic gun and during the curing process, the paint permanently bonds to the metal shutter. Powder coating is also environmentally friendly because it doesn’t emit any VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

Do aluminum shutters have a wood grain finish?
Aluminum shutters are available in a smooth or textured powder coat finish.
How are aluminum shutters assembled?
The aluminum shutters are cut to size and then fastened at key points. The rails are then overlapping to create a seamless appearance and enhanced strength. Powder coating is then applied to the shutters to make them scratch and weather resistant. In addition to looking great, our aluminum shutters are also storm rated to protect you from storms.
